Synopsis
Clones with variance that can live eternally are roaming the galaxy - touring around in trips counted in hundred of thousands of years.
They collect info and technology.
When suddenly, their family of clones ( the line their house ) is attacked. And they want to find out why/by whom.
They discover that a secret line is their to preserve a secret. The fact that clones killed the first thinking machines.
The "new" thinking machines want to liberate some of the first machines that escaped.

My take
It's a funny book. My favourite idea is a weird one:
At the end of the book, we discover a wormhole that lead to an other galaxy.
That other galaxy had a weird thing some million years ago - it disappeared, there is an "absence"
The protagonists go through the wormhole, and end in that galaxy.
The absence is only a way to preserve causality ( something can go faster than light as long as the light arrived is not shown from the departure )
